Model runs

Met Office Weather DataHub delivers scheduled model runs for Atmospheric Model data.

What is a model run?

A model run is the combination of the model and the time of the forecast run. Each of the science models that provide atmospheric data completes a number of new forecasts every day. The global models work to a six-hour cycle and produce a forecast for 0, 6, 12 and 18. The UK models work on an hourly basis.

When is a model run available?

Once the generation of the forecast is complete, the data is brought into Met Office Weather DataHub for download and customer use. The model run will be marked as available as soon as it is confirmed that all the expected parameters and time steps have been delivered. API calls and file transfers will then be able to access the data for this model run. Each model run has an expected elapsed time after the forecast time for delivery.

What is an incomplete model run?

A model run is released as incomplete if not all of the parameters or time steps are available but there are sufficient to issue what has been received. Asking for an order in this case will only return what is there so there will be less transfers than normal.

If your order doesn’t reference any of the missing parameters or time steps, then it would be delivered complete.

Model run timings and status

Every combination of a model and a run from that model has an expected delivery window. The global ensemble models take the longest time to ingest and the UK deterministic the shortest model runs.
